David Warner is part of the Australian cricket team announced on December 3, exclusively for the first test in Perth starting on December 14.
After being included in the 14-man team for the first game of the three-match series against Pakistan on Sunday, Australia’s opener David Warner appears set to receive the test farewell of his choosing.
In June, Warner declared his intention to end his 12-year tenure in the longest format following the third test against the tourists in Sydney early the next year.
His average of less than thirty test runs in the last two years, along with just one century, had threatened to thwart his plans, but his involvement in Australia’s recent World Cup victory has cemented his spot in the squad.
Lance Morris, a bowler from Western Australia, was included in the team despite it being a settled one. He would provide plenty of raw pace if selected to make his test debut in Perth Stadium under familiar circumstances from December 14–18.
After missing the latter part of the Ashes series of the previous year due to a calf injury, off-spinner Nathan Lyon also made his way back into the lineup, replacing Todd Murphy.
Everything else being equal, Australia kept the players who won the World Test Championship for the first time in the previous year and the Ashes in England.
Others still have the chance to put themselves in the running for the two-match series against the West Indies and the upcoming tests against Pakistan in Melbourne and Sydney, according to chief selector George Bailey.
“We look forward to seeing the continued strong performances from players who have been performing domestically, many of whom will get a tremendous opportunity in the Prime Minister’s XI fixture against Pakistan later this week,” stated the statement. Pakistan, who haven’t triumphed in a test match in Australia in almost thirty years, is in Canberra, getting ready for the four-day tour encounter on Wednesday at Manuka Oval.
