OnePlus has had an incredible year because of several fantastic products. With premium features available for just $699, the OnePlus 11 made a significant return in terms of value for money. It featured exceptional performance with clean software, a large, bright display, high-quality cameras, and a long battery life.
However, it still lacked two features, which the OnePlus 12, which was introduced in China today, appears to have addressed. In terms of efficiency, the OnePlus 12 might rank among the top Android phones of 2024 if the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is any like the Gen 2.
OnePlus 12 Camera details
For a while, I drove the OnePlus 11 every day, and I was pleased with its general performance and appearance. The OnePlus 12 has been improved inside to offer two major features, one that I really missed having and one that is specifically targeted at the American market, even though its appearance hasn’t undergone a major makeover.
The OnePlus 11 has three cameras, but I was disappointed that there was no 3x optical zoom. In addition to boasting an improved telephoto sensor, the OnePlus 12’s triple camera configuration is similar to that of the OnePlus Open. The 50MP Sony LYT-808 primary camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) is the focal point of the OnePlus 12’s triple rear camera arrangement. It comes with a 64MP OV64B periscope lens with 3x optical zoom and a 48MP Sony IMX581 ultrawide-angle camera.
It has the same lens arrangement as the OnePlus Open, which has the most flexible camera layout of any foldable phone. Since its release, I have been using the OnePlus foldable phone, and with every update, the cameras have gotten better.
The OnePlus Open’s 50MP Sony LYT-808 sensor is remarkable. The photographs above provide a good skin tone, a reasonable dynamic range, and a beautiful overall image without any overdone highlights in the cloud. At launch, the camera wasn’t well-suited for low light, but OnePlus has partially addressed that as well.
The 64MP periscope camera impressed me more than the 50MP primary camera, even though it can take detailed pictures. This is due to the fact that it produces excellent 6x zoom photos in addition to performing well up to 15x digital zoom. The OnePlus Open fared better at 6x and up to 15x digital zoom when compared to my iPhone 15 Pro.

Wireless charging
One conspicuous absence was present in both the OnePlus 11 and OnePlus Open: wireless charging. I see the point about how convenient wireless charging can be for certain people, but I didn’t have a problem because I work remotely most of the time from couches or coffee shops. Having multiple wireless charging pads positioned throughout your house is also advantageous.
50-watt wireless charging is a feature of the OnePlus 12. It reminds me of the OnePlus 10 Pro, which, at the time of its release, was the quickest wireless charging phone available in the United States. That title will shortly be assumed by the OnePlus 12, which is anticipated to make its American debut in January.
The OnePlus 12 is now a complete phone, thanks to the addition of wireless charging and improved cameras. Price increases are to be expected, of course. Still, considering the company’s recent performance and my own experience with the OnePlus Open’s camera system, I think this will be one of the phones to watch in 2024. Even though the OnePlus 11 was already a fantastic phone, the flagship model for 2024 looks to be even better.
Additional Features
The 6.82-inch QHD+ 2K OLED LTPO display on the OnePlus 12 has a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The screen’s maximum brightness rating of 4,500 nits is among the best we’ve ever seen. The phone’s brightness will often reach 1,600 nits, but when necessary, it may grow much brighter. The 4,500 nits level is designed for high dynamic range (HDR) material; certain screen regions may reach that level when necessary for HDR videos. The OnePlus 12 display supports Dolby Vision, 10-bit color depth, and ProXDR, the same as the OnePlus Open.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, which I haven’t tested yet, powers the OnePlus 12. Hopefully, it’s just as efficient as the Snapdragon Gen 2. The OnePlus 12 has the same base 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage as the OnePlus 11. However, it now has 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM instead of 8GB. Upgrading to 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage is possible.
The 5,400mAh battery of the OnePlus flagship for 2024 allows for 50W wireless and 100W cable fast charging. It has Oppo’s SuperVOOC S power management chip, which was initially seen on the OnePlus 11R, to keep it from overheating. The IP65 rating of the OnePlus 12 is an improvement over its IP64 rating for dust and water protection.
The OnePlus 12’s design isn’t completely revamped, but it does include some notable adjustments. The volume rockers and power buttons are now on one side of the phone, while the alert slider is on the other. This initial change makes the phone easier to use. Second, the back of the green-colored version has a wavy pattern. It appears fantastic in photos. There are three color options available for the OnePlus 12: black, green, and white.
Oneplus 12 Cost Range
The base 12GB/256GB model of the OnePlus 12 costs 4,299 yuan ($607) in China, while the top-tier 24GB/1TB model costs 5,799 yuan ($818). The OnePlus 12 will cost 300 yuan more than the OnePlus 11, and when it launches globally in “early 2024,” you should anticipate a price rise. By the end of January, the gadget is anticipated to be released in additional markets, according to previously disclosed information.
The price of the OnePlus 12 is unknown, but if China’s pricing is any indication, it should be rather competitive when it ultimately makes its way to the United States.
