The NV Plastic Surgery Clinic in Ulsan has successfully combined architecture and design to create a unique approach to plastic surgery. This comprehensive design project, carried out by 420 Design Studio, includes branding, interior design, and a distinctive vision that immerses visitors in an entirely different experience.
The design team was inspired by the wonders of the universe and began a deep research of the cosmos to conceptualize the core of the plastic surgery experience. Referring to black holes and the movie Interstellar, aimed to capture the sensation of traveling through a black hole, and emerging on the opposite side changed and rejuvenated.
The name of the clinic, NV Plastic Surgery, is based on the idea of “New Vistas.” The concept aims to expand opportunities for patients as they navigate around the clinic. This is where the origin of NV Plastic Surgery’s moniker came from. We aimed to expand the possibilities for visitors in this area. Interstellar, released in 2014: Did you watch the film Interstellar? While working on this project, we went over it numerous times, recalling the film mentally. And I’ve revisited those scenes countless times, particularly the ones that portray black holes.
The movie Interstellar was the inspiration for NV Plastic Surgery. This accurately describes the core of the experience, when people explore unknown areas, leaving behind what they are used to and embracing the possibility of personal change.
Dark holes, light holes, and boundary of events Black holes engulf any objects that cross the event horizon. Each dimension that traverses a black hole collapses and is subsequently redefined, whereas existence is reestablished through a white hole. All dimensions are fully recreated and exist in a whole new universe. Indeed, plastic surgery might feel akin to traversing a black hole for some individuals. To transition to an entirely new realm, beyond the boundary of current occurrences, and encounter an alternate dimension.
The color design of the clinic incorporates the contrast between different aspects. The orange color reflects the intense heat of a black hole, while gray signifies the expanse and lack of moisture in the surrounding universe. Stainless steel details add a cool vibe, evoking the feeling of being on a space station.
The space is characterized by the frequent use of horizontal lines as a unifying architectural element. By simulating the vast range of events, these lines evoke a feeling of limitless depth. Similar to the beginning of a film where the main character uncovers a different world, the horizontal lines represent the first entrance to a new realm, welcoming visitors to start their own transformative experience.
Light is essential in creating an engaging atmosphere at NV Plastic Surgery Clinic. Representing the start of creation, light directs visitors as they progress through many stages of their trip. Starting from the first meeting at the clinic entry, where the light shines from the counter to the bright wall that leads to the treatment area, and lastly, the entrance to the surgery center on the higher floor, each interaction with light represents the gradual transition into a different way of life.
There is a source of illumination. In the Book of Genesis, the Maker forms the world using these words. Light is the start of everything, the creation. Let’s propose the idea of advancing to a higher level via light. Upon entering NV Plastic Surgery, visitors are greeted by a light positioned at the back of the desk. The sun is rising.
The biggest wall appears bright when you go to the clinic after spending some time in the waiting area. This is the second light. I encounter the third light when I arrive at the entrance of the surgery center on the higher floor. You can move in the direction of the light. And into a different realm, into a different existence.
NV Plastic Surgery Clinic offers more than just alterations to one’s appearance; it provides a chance for individuals to explore themselves and go on a path of personal growth. The design team at 420 Design Studio has skillfully created a physical place that goes beyond the usual, providing an environment that enhances the plastic surgery procedure and offers a fascinating and transformative experience.
